Tereza, de 77 años, ha vivido toda su vida en un pequeño pueblo industrializado de la Amazonia, hasta que un día recibe una orden oficial del gobierno para trasladarse a una colonia de viviendas para ancianos. La colonia es una zona aislada a la que se lleva a los ancianos para que “disfruten” de sus últimos años, lo que permite que la generación más joven se concentre plenamente en la productividad y el crecimiento. Tereza se niega a aceptar este destino impuesto. En su lugar, emprende un viaje a través del Amazonas que cambiará su destino para siempre.
