José Cardoso Pires, célebre autor portugués, sufre en 1995 un accidente cerebrovascular que lo deja internado y con serios problemas para comunicarse. Sumergido en un torrente de fantasías, recuerdos y ensoñaciones, atraviesa un verdadero viaje existencial que dejó plasmado en De profundis, Valsa Lenta, su última novela. Fernando Vendrell registra esos alucinados días en la vida del autor, en los que ficción y realidad borraron sus fronteras.
